I've had two monitors connected to my computer at home for several years now, and I just made the jump to four monitors. Why do I need two? or four? Well, I don't need them, but they can be very useful. When I am researching or browsing on the web, I can have multiple windows fully visible at once. If I am working in photoshop, I can have all the toolbars and folders on one monitor and the actual image on another. If I am IMing while working, I can do that on one monitor while I work on the other. If you try it out, I'm sure you would like it and find it useful. Monitors are cheap these days, and graphics cards that support multiple monitors are inexpensive as well.

Anyways, for all you techies out there, what you see are two 19 inch Samsung LCDs and two 15 inch Misitubishi's. To get the 15's rotated into portrait mode, I had to remove the stands and attach different stands that could rotate the monitor. The stands were white, but a little matte black spray paint took care of that. There are three graphics cards running the four monitors. A Radeon 9800 PRO runs DVI to one 19 and VGA to the other. The 15's are run by two seperate ATI Rage 128 VR's that are PCI. Supposodly, the Rage supports monitor rotation, but it stubbornly refused to apply the settings. The 9800 pro had no problem rotating, but I wasnt about to make my primary displays 15 inch monitors. Instead I got a copy of PivotPro 7, which works great.
If anyone wants some help picking out equipment or setting up multiple monitors, I'd be glad to help. This website is crazy: 9xmedia
